The journey begins in Monterotondo, a small hamlet nestled among the vineyards near Gavi Ligure, in the renowned wine region of Piedmont. From there, a short 5-minute taxi transfer brings you to your charming hotel in Monterotondo, the perfect starting point for your cycling adventure.

Day 1 · Monterotondo

On Day 1, the tour begins at 10:00 directly from the hotel. You’ll set off on your first ride through the vineyards towards Gavi, famed for its imposing fortress and award-winning white wines. Then it’s on to Libarna to explore the remains of a Roman settlement before entering the Borbera Valley, rich with abbeys, castles, and medieval villages. The day ends with a wine tasting in the ancient cellars of Villa Sparina, followed by dinner at Il Gallina, where traditional flavours meet modern flair.
Distance: 11 to 46 km, elevation gain up to 530 m.

You’ll ride through the birthplace of cycling legends Fausto Coppi and Costante Girardengo, visiting the Cycling Museum in Novi Ligure — the largest of its kind in Europe. After a stop in Castellania for a rustic lunch and a taste of Montebore cheese, you’ll continue past Villavernia, known for its raw-earth farmhouses, and the fossil-rich town of Sant’Agata Fossili. End the day with panoramic views from the rolling hills of Sandigliano.
Distance: 18 km (150 m) or 75 km (570 m).

This stage brings more stunning hills and valleys as you cycle through Mornese and visit the impressive Tagliolo Castle, with roots tracing back to the first millennium. Continue through the Capanne di Marcarolo Natural Park before stopping for lunch in Ovada, a Roman town nestled between the Orba and Stura rivers. The day concludes in Acqui Terme, a historic spa town built on natural hot springs.
Distance: 62 km (630 m) or 93 km (1200 m)

After a restful night in Acqui, today’s ride is all about sweeping views and world-class wines. You’ll pass through Montabone and Rocchetta Palafea en route to Canelli, where you’ll visit the Underground Wine Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage candidate. After a wine-paired lunch at Enoteca Contratto, continue to Santo Stefano Belbo and onwards to Neive, a stunning village in the Langhe, listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”.
Distance: 43 km, elevation gain 625 m.

From Neive, you’ll ride towards La Morra, with a stop in Barbaresco to visit the regional wine centre, showcasing over 130 labels from the area’s leading producers. After lunch in Alba, you’ll climb to La Morra, perched on a ridge overlooking the Po Valley and the Alps. In the afternoon, enjoy a unique experience truffle hunting in the hazelnut groves before dining in a medieval castle with panoramic views.
Distance: 37 km, elevation gain 700 m.

On your final day of riding, you’ll explore the heart of the Barolo wine region, cycling along peaceful backroads between historic villages and immaculate vineyards. Highlights include a visit to the Barolo Castle and its innovative wine museum, WiMu. Continue on to Monforte d’Alba and Serralunga d’Alba, both steeped in history. Wrap up the day with a tasting at La Morra’s Cantina Comunale and, if you wish, a scenic walk along the Barolo Trail before a celebratory dinner.
Distance: 57 km (840 m) or 67 km (1114 m).

After breakfast, we’ll provide a transfer to Bra or Asti train station. From there, it’s just a 45-minute ride back to Turin.
