- Do I need to bring my own bike or gear?

Only if you want to! Dropin Bike offers high-performance hybrid and road bikes equipped with everything you’ll need: hand pump, spare tube, repair kit, tools, lock, seat and handlebar bags (hybrid only), and water bottle.
We recommend bringing your own helmet for hygiene and safety. If you need to borrow one, let us know in advance.

– How fit do I need to be?

Our trips are suitable for a range of fitness levels. The fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. We provide training suggestions and our team can help match you with a trip that suits your pace.

– How should I train?

Ask yourself: can I comfortably cycle 45 km or go for a brisk two-hour walk? For cycling trips, start with short rides and increase the distance and difficulty gradually. The same applies to hiking. Focus on both endurance and intensity—especially for hilly terrain. We’ll send you training tips once your trip is confirmed.

I’m already quite fit. Will the trip still be challenging?

Absolutely. We offer optional routes with extra distance and elevation. Your guide will review the next day’s options each evening so that you can choose the right level of challenge.

– How do you cater to different ability levels?

Each day, you’ll have multiple route options. Choose based on your energy level or interests that day. Some guests may prefer the longer challenge while others take a shorter route and relax. A support van is always nearby for assistance, refreshments, or a lift if needed.

Our groups often include a mix of abilities, so you’re likely to find someone at your pace. Friends or couples with different fitness levels can ride with others and reunite later.

If you’re unable to ride or hike one day, your guide will arrange transport for you and your luggage to the next destination.

– Do I have to carry my own luggage?

Not at all. Our support van transports all luggage. Hybrid bikes come with handlebar bags for your daily essentials, or you can leave a day-bag in the van. Road cyclists typically use jersey pockets for small items.

– How long has Dropin Bike been in business and who owns the company?

Dropin Bike was established in 1997 and is owned by Robbin McKinney. Robbin has been guiding trips across Europe and globally since 1985, including 16 years with Butterfield & Robinson. Unlike many other companies now operated by large corporations, Dropin Bike remains independently owned, allowing us to focus on delivering meaningful travel experiences rather than profit margins. Our mission is to create exceptional, active journeys that inspire adventure.

– What makes Dropin Bike different?

At Dropin Bike, flexibility is key. We design our trips so you can enjoy each region at your own pace. Cycling days typically range from 40 to 65 km (25–40 miles), with longer route options available for those seeking more of a challenge. For travelers who prefer downtime to explore, indulge in local activities, or simply relax, we include layover days in our itineraries.

– Who travels with Dropin Bike?

Our trips attract travelers of all ages, including solo adventurers, couples, and groups of friends. Around half of our guests are returning clients, and a significant number come through personal recommendations. Our travelers tend to be spirited, social, and eager to make the most of every moment on the road.

A note from our founder: After 16 years guiding for the company that pioneered luxury cycling and walking tours in Europe, I launched Dropin Bike to better serve a younger-at-heart, more adventurous, and laid-back audience.

– What responsibilities do I have as a guest?

As a participant, you’re responsible for choosing a trip that suits your fitness and health level, arriving on time for the initial meeting, packing the recommended gear from your Trip Planner, respecting local laws and customs, using our equipment properly, and returning bicycles and gear in good condition (normal wear and tear excluded).

– What is Dropin Bike's privacy policy?

We are committed to safeguarding your privacy. Any personal information collected through our website remains strictly confidential and will never be shared externally without your consent. We do not sell, distribute, or publish your data in any way.

– What are Dropin Bike’s limitations of liability?

Dropin Bike is not liable for any injury, loss, damage, or expense you or your representatives may incur as a result of participating in one of our trips.

– How do I know if my preferred trip date is available?

Each trip page lists our scheduled dates up to two years in advance. If one suits you, you can register online and select that start date. If you have alternative dates in mind, submit the form anyway and we’ll contact our accommodation partners to confirm availability. No deposit is required until your dates are confirmed. Final trip confirmation is provided no later than 90 days before departure. Please note: a minimum of 4 participants is required to guarantee a guided tour.

– How far in advance should I book?

The sooner, the better. All trips are “on request,” and confirmation depends on accommodation availability. Once we receive your registration form, we’ll verify availability within 48 hours.

– What deposit is required?

A deposit of €750 per person is due upon receipt of the initial invoice.
For Bike & Yacht or Custom trips, a €1,500 per person deposit is required. This is non-refundable.

– What is a single supplement?

Our pricing is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers who prefer a private room will incur a single supplement fee.

– When is the balance due?

Your final payment is due 90 days before your trip begins. However, you may pay any time after receiving confirmation.

– How do I book a Dropin Bike trip?

Simply complete our online registration form. On any page of our website, click “Book this Trip” and follow the steps. We do not take reservations by phone.

– Are there additional taxes?

No taxes apply unless otherwise specified on the trip itinerary. Trips within Canada, for example, are subject to local GST. Please consult the specific trip page for details.

– How are exchange rates calculated if I pay in a different currency?

We use the live exchange rate on the invoice date when converting between currencies.

– What is Dropin Bike’s cancellation policy?

Dropin Bike does not offer refunds for cancellations or changes.
We highly recommend purchasing third-party trip cancellation insurance to ensure you're covered in case plans change. For airfare, cancellation insurance should be purchased when you book your flights.

If you cancel or reschedule more than 90 days before your trip, a €250 cancellation fee applies and €500 will be held as a credit. This credit can be used toward a future trip booked and completed by December 31 of the following year.
Please note: Deposits and balances for Bike & Yacht trips in Croatia are fully non-refundable, and no credits will be issued in case of cancellation.

– When will I receive detailed trip information?

Once your accommodations are confirmed, we’ll email you a Trip Planner with everything you need to prepare. Around 30 days before departure, you’ll receive your GPS files, maps, and final details. We wait until then to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.
