Once the richest of France’s ancient duchies, Burgundy still exudes the wealth and charm born from centuries of winemaking. Cycling through this region means riding along quiet vineyard lanes and peaceful country roads, where the only traffic you might meet is a tractor hauling the day’s harvest. It’s an immersive way to experience the rolling countryside and its timeless rhythms.

Charming villages dot the landscape—each with inviting wine cellars offering tastings and cozy restaurants serving winemakers’ lunches that are as refined as they are authentic. After 15+ years of exploring this region by bike, we know Burgundy intimately—from its Flemish-style châteaux to the remarkable Hospice de Beaune.

Dijon: Most participants arrive via Paris and take the train to Dijon the evening before the tour begins. We’re happy to recommend excellent hotels in Dijon’s historic district.

Day 1 · Gevrey-Chambertin

After a short transfer, we begin in the heart of the Grands Crus region. Ride to a tiny village for lunch, then visit the Château of Gevrey-Chambertin for a private tasting of their celebrated Grand Cru wines.

Today’s route takes us through flat farmlands to the Abbaye de Cîteaux, where monks still make their renowned cheese. We finish with a visit to Clos de Vougeot and cycle past legendary vineyards including Romanée-Conti and other prestigious estates.

We ride south, stopping for lunch at one of our favourite auberges. In the afternoon, we arrive in Beaune, our base for the next two nights. We’ll stay within the old city walls at a charming 3-star hotel and dine at acclaimed restaurants known for their superb wine lists.

Begin with a guided historical tour of Beaune, including the extraordinary Hospice de Beaune. For cycling, choose your own adventure—flat or hilly, short or long. The day is yours to enjoy.

Our route takes us through Pommard and on to St. Romain, where we visit traditional barrel-makers (tonneliers) and learn about this centuries-old craft. We end in Puligny-Montrachet, staying in a welcoming 3-star hotel at the heart of the village.

Our final ride includes a scenic climb to Château de la Rochepot, nestled in a lush valley. Back in Puligny-Montrachet, we’re hosted for a festive lunch with a local winemaker. Then it’s a relaxing ride back to the hotel to toast our final night together.

Depart at your leisure from Beaune train station.
