We first discovered the Dordogne in the early 1980s, drawn by its quiet country roads perfect for cycling, breathtaking scenery, and castles tucked behind every bend. Decades later, the region has only grown in charm—with exceptional hotels, gourmet restaurants, and cultural treasures that make it one of the most enchanting destinations in France. From prehistoric cave art to medieval villages and dramatic cliffside fortresses, the Dordogne offers an experience like no other.

Les Eyzies is easily accessible by train. Most participants spend the night before in Bordeaux and take the 10:50 a.m. train on Day 1, arriving in Les Eyzies at 12:40 p.m. Alternatively, you can travel from Paris via Limoges on the 8:15 a.m. train. We’re happy to recommend charming hotels in Bordeaux’s historic district to start your journey in style.

Day 1 · Les Eyzies

Welcome to the Vézère Valley, where our adventure begins. We’ll meet at the Les Eyzies train station at 12:40 p.m. and cycle to Campagne for lunch at a local bistrot. The villages of Le Bugue and Limeuil—both listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France—offer a warm introduction to the region. Les Eyzies, the cradle of prehistory, is home to the renowned National Prehistory Museum and the Font de Gaume cave, where you can view original Paleolithic art dating back to 12,000 B.C. In the evening, enjoy a welcome reception and the first of many exceptional meals.

Distance: 14 km (185 m gain) or 38 km (490 m gain)

Choose from four spectacular cycling routes today. The most popular option follows the Vézère River north to Montignac, where you can visit the remarkable Lascaux II cave replica and learn about the history of these ancient masterpieces. Enjoy a leisurely lunch featuring regional specialties before returning to Les Eyzies. Relax by the pool or indulge in the comforts of our centrally located 4-star hotel.

Distance: 31 km (550 m gain), 44 km (700 m), 66 km (880 m), or 100 km (1,420 m)

Today’s ride winds through the castle-dotted countryside. Highlights include visits to Château de Castelnau, a 1,000-year-old fortress, and Les Milandes, former home of entertainer and resistance hero Josephine Baker. Arrive in Sarlat, a beautifully preserved Renaissance town, where we’ll enjoy a private walking tour before dinner at a favourite local restaurant.

Distance: 48 km (675 m gain), 70 km (925 m), or 100 km (1,412 m)

Today is yours to tailor. Opt for a rest day with a paddling excursion on the Dordogne River or simply explore Sarlat’s lively markets, cafés, and boutiques. Riders can enjoy shorter routes to canoe locations or longer loops through the countryside past fairy-tale castles and châteaux. Dinner is on your own tonight—we’ll provide a curated list from casual bistros to fine dining.

Distance: 44 km (545 m gain), 60 km (820 m), or 85 km (1,085 m)

Prepare for one of the most scenic rides of the week. Follow the Dordogne River through lush valleys and limestone cliffs. After lunch in Souillac, continue on to the exquisite Château de la Treyne, a Relais & Châteaux hotel perched above the river. Tonight, we dine at the Michelin-starred Pont d’Ouisse, an unforgettable culinary experience.

Distance: 38 km (320 m gain)
Longer routes available on request.

Ride to Rocamadour, a cliffside village and revered pilgrimage site. Spend time exploring its winding lanes, chapels, and viewpoints. Optional add-ons include Autoire, Loubressac, or even a visit to the impressive Gouffre de Padirac, a dramatic underground cave system explored by boat. Back at the château, we’ll toast our journey with a celebratory wine reception on the terrace.

Distance: 35 km (590 m gain), 65 km (1,035 m), or 100 km (1,580 m)

Depart at your leisure. Transfers to Souillac (just 5 minutes away) can be arranged to suit your schedule.
